I review body worn camera and dashcam evidence every other day or so as part of my work. This is one is bad. The aryan looking tall cop who punched the suspect in the face should be restrained from ever working in law enforcement again. He created and escalated the whole damn thing. The rest should have at least been fired.

The man got 70k out of it. You say you review this stuff regularly. I'd like to think most cops do their job the best they can, is that true or am I wishful thinking.

@MikeFlora
It is true from my experience. I do criminal trial defense work. When my boys were younger, some of their friend’s dads were state police. We became friends. Most cops are trying like hell to do the right thing from my observation. Body worn cameras have really opened up access to hold police even more accountable. Most screw ups I see are lack of probable cause, over reaching the scope of a search or potential Miranda violations.

@Markus That's good to know. There are some things I'm seeing that look like they are scared and their first instinct is to shoot, like that boy they shot in his grandma's back yard. You hear the cop yell gun, gun, gun and they immediately start shooting. There's no way in the dark like that the cop could see clearly what the boy had in his hand.

@MikeFlora
I think it might be down to training. Once 1 cop initiates fire, they all impulsively assume the threat has been identified and join in firing until they perceive the threat is stopped. I did some amateur competitive pistol shooting years ago and I can attest that the 10 round magazine empties in a hurry.

@Markus You are right about other cops joining in, you watch the videos on youtube and after the first shot they just go nuts. I've shot some guns myself and you are right a semi-auto weapon can go thru a clip of any size pretty quick. How do we change the "shoot first" mentality?
