I’m planning an East to West and back road trip next year, hitting as many national parks and scenic (not touristy) sites as possible. What’s a “not to be missed” place you recommend?

If you'd like to see the Grand Canyon and not be over run by tourists I'd recommend making the drive to the North Rim. The South Rim is what most people think of when going on a vacation, but the North Rim is much quieter, and usually only attracts avid hikers and much smaller tour groups.

If you're going west on 1-40 I have a few more suggestions.

If you like the Eagles you could always stand on the corner in Winslow, Az.

I really liked Meteor Crater.(20 miles west of Winslow, AZ.) You not only get the geological history, but they also used Meteor Crater to train astronauts for space missions.

The Eagles created hella good driving music.

Smokey Mountains, TN & NC

That’s on my list! Cannot wait. Any specific places i the mtns?

@UUNJ There are tons of them. Are you a hiker or a stroller?

@AstralSmoke Medium difficulty hiking, A lot of stairs and steep hills would be an issue for my knee (a brace lets me downhill ski). And I’ll have a dog with me. Also, I’ll make a pit stop in Knoxville for a speaking gig.
