Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.The original surface methane detections were made by Mike Mumma at Goddard using ground based, IRTF spectroscopy. By observing Mars as it recedes from the Earth, you can use Doppler shifts to distinguish Martian from Terrestrial atmospheric signatures.
