Since I will be moving to a much smaller home soon, I will have to reduce some of the arts and crafts supplies that I will be taking with me.

I have been dyeing fabric for some time and using the fabrics for art and sewing projects. The dyeing technique I use and have taught is shibori...Japanese tie dye...I have about 18 yards of linen left so before it gets too cold, I am going to dye it.

The pictures are from a class I taught in Toronto...as you can see, it is quite messy but the end results are satisfying.

Maybe when I move, I will have a space to do it, but for now, I will just find projects to use up my supply.

Thanks for looking.

Something else you could do is put your stuff into boxes and put plywood over them making a false floor. In submarines they used to put the canned goods on the floors and walk on them until the food was used.

I just had another thought. The boxes mentioned could be used as the under part of a bed. They could be under a table. Need a table top use a door taken off the hinges.

Will you have a yard, garage or open area? Could use the bath tub, but getting the color out later would be difficult, you could paint it though.

I used to dye in my pink bath tub...and yes, it stains badly...I use a huge bucket now...I will find a studio if I need one

@thinktwice My experience with dying in a bathtub was given by a friend who met a woman in San Francisco who rented two apartments next to each other and used on to dye fabric. Apparently the tub was ruined for color but worked quiet well for years. I know for a fact that the people who refurnish tubs use an epoxy based colored paint to make them white again. Would be dangerous to do without a respirator and good ventilation but possible. Would be a lot cheaper than replacing the tub.

@dalefvictor ha ha I only used the tub because I knew it would be replaced. There is no way I would use my new tub for dyeing...I find that restaurants are more than willing to give away large buckets that they get pickles or other foods in...they work well! Thanks for your advice for others that might have ruined their tubs! ha ha

Reminded me late 60's and early 70's ...that was my everyday attire, cotton tunics and stonewashed jeans.

Cool hobby, gorgeous colors

Thank you...Shibori dyeing is traditionally indigo blue. You have to buy the indigo flower and let it bloom to create the blue. The depth of the blues is controlled by how long you let the fabric sit.

Your creativity is impressive.

Thank you...I need something to balance my mathematical side...don't want to be lopsided...lol

That is so damned cool. I've long wanted to paint border scenes on fabric then fashion it into skirts, curtains, scarves, whatever. I haven't tried yet because of limited room and I'm not sure how to start.

I paint fabric and then use free form embroidery to embellish...

@thinktwice nice. Pics!

@Freespirit64 Here is a piece I already posted...just plain muslin, painted and then I used black thread to highlight the flowers and stems
