Really interesting art . I do , however , believe that it's illegal to tamper with US currency .

Actually, it is only illegal if the intent is to commit fraud...you can for artistic purposes as long as you do not attempt to use the altered currency as actual currency...the original law was set up against counterfeiters and others who would attempt to pass on money as denominations other than those originally minted...that is why you can have penny machines that stamp out a tourist spot and why you can make coin necklaces and bracelets...it is done all the time.
Really cool, I will have to investigate how to carve metal.
