I used to think cormorants were solitary birds, but these two made me think again. I do still believe that they are fish with feathers though . . .

That is news to me, nesting in rookeries. It is, for me, most unusual to see a pair like this. Here in Yorkshire I reckon the rooks would not be happy to share space with cormorants.

Try not to be so nit picky and take a moment to learn. The birds nest in large colonies in coastal areas and inland waterways. They also feed in flocks when prey is plentiful. I have seldom seen just one, normally around here they are in small flocks.
@glennlab Thank you. I said in my original reply that 'It is, for me, most unusual to see a pair like this.' I am not disputing what you said, merely reporting my observations. Things are different in your experience, and I am not disputing anything you say. Come to Yorkshire and see what it is like here.
