I have interest in the Republican Party cause I see myself as being very conservative. Conservatives created the EPA, now Trump and some Republicans want to destroy it. Why? Many folks think only Democrats are atheists or agnostic, but there are plenty of Democrats that are evangelical.

My biggest issue is neither party addressing climate change. As a science lover, I just can not understand why more is not being done. Wouldn’t that be the conservative thing to do??

it would be the humane thing to do. I don't think this should cut across party lines. All humans, even the superrich at a point, will suffer due to environmental degradation

When it comes to environmental initiatives, there tends to be a clash with economics and individual freedom, so it comes down to finding a balance that is ideal for environment, the economy and individual freedom. Too much environmental policy can have negative impact on economy and individual freedom, which is conflicting for conservatives who do not want more government control.

Example of environmental policy negatively impacting the economy.. In CA legislators have passed a state-wide gas tax, which was okay for city-dwellers who use small cars, but had a negative impact on farmers in rural areas who use heavy equipment that consume more gas.

I thought this was interesting.. State and wildlife agencies have less funds to invest into conservation efforts because of diminishing number of hunters. Ironic thing is that "the left" challenges gun sales and hunting, yet they want conservation. [npr.org]

Obama was praised for protecting more acreage than Teddy Roosevelt, but there hasn't been much discussion on the costs this adds to the budget.. There is currently $11 billion backlog in maintenance fees for national parks in the US. It is now $30 for a week pass to many national parks, which many people often visit only for one day. I remember when the fee was $8 for a week. The original proposal a few months ago was to increase the week pass fee to $75. Some conservatives have questions why are we paying so much to see land ? There is a Republican group though that draws awareness to environmental issues - Republicen - [republicen.org]

We can never successfully address the carbon problem without using nuclear energy. Right now there is no viable renewable energy that can survive without heavy government subsidies. Like it or not we’re going to be heavily dependent on oil and gas for quite some time unless we use more nuclear power.
