Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.I live in Covington, Ga, which a small semi-rural town. I have made it widely known that I am an Atheist since moving here in 1999. I have not had one issue. Oh sure, the Churchies try to indoctrinate, but no issues. In fact I am highly regarded as fair and honest (important because I am an Environmental Compliance Officer). The first time I was sworn into court the judge had the Bailiff bring over a bible. I explained that while I can take an oath on the bible, it would be meaningless to me. He was a little flustered at first and then asked if I could swear to the Citizens of Newton County? I said, most certainly. And that is what we did.
If I can be publically known as an Atheist here, pretty much anybody can. Actually, they are more concerned about me being a "Damn Yankee"!
