Hi - I am not knowledgeable about formal anthropology, but am enjoying some of the posts to this group, and sometimes over the years have thought that anthropology may be relevant to my life and my thinking even though I am not technically formally involved.

One of the touch-points in recent years was that this book was recommended to me by an old friend from high school. Have others read this? How is it regarded within various circles? It may seem very extreme, but I simply liked it, I thought it did make me think of one or more basic points in new ways.

I haven't read *A Short History..." but I did come across several of Wright's academic papers when I was studying at university, and was impressed by his intellectual diligence and ability come up with new arguments which, though often quite radical, never verge into the domain of woo. Having checked out a few academic reviews of this book, it sounds like a good read.
