Living amongst folks of the Abrahamic Religions: Does anyone see this as an anthropological exercise? More broadly, whatever time period one is born into, is there not a principle of living amongst others and the severely imperfect (and potentially fatal to body or mind or soul) beliefs and customs of the time and place?

Funnier to think of it in those terms, isn't it?

I was invited to a junior high graduation ceremony for my friend’s son. There was a moment during what turned out to be a full Catholic mass, that I felt very much like an anthropologist witnessing some remote tribal ritual. Observing the automatic responses; the stand up sit down and call/respond phrases made me feel like taking notes on their behavior.

Relative to what other ideology or concepts? Utopias exist but only in theory and then only as perfect examples of a set of ideals. Vikings or Spartans for example, would have very different concepts of perfection.
