The Treasure of La Capitana is from the wreck of a treasure ship that went down off the coast of Ecuador in 1654, we were fortunate enough to get a private viewing of it when we were staying at a boutique hotel in Guayaquil, EC. The owner of the hotel asked me about my surfpirate email address and I explained that I liked to treasure dive as a hobby, so she called her friend who is the director of the local museum just down the street and arranged for me to see and handle some of the artifacts retrieved from the wreckage. The director wasn't in but his assistant and one of the divers gave me a private viewing in the basement of the museum.
