[inverse.com] Interesting paper. I just wonder how far they are off or if someone finally got it right this time

I liked the sentence "Unlike nuclear DNA which is remixed, and recombined every time a new person is born, mitochondrial DNA doesn’t appear to recombine — though new models suggest some recombination does happen." So basically it never recombines, except when it does. Somehow I get the feeling this study won't be the final word. But that wouldn't be anything new.

Spencer Wells and others first started to do this research many years ago. They came up with the same concepts and found that we all have what would be called black DNA in our genes. There are no totally white people on the planet. Spencer's work went to start the Genomic Project that the National Geographic has taken over.

The "evidence" is based on mitochondrial DNA. This is passed on via female linage. So females may have originated there, but where did the men originate?

You don’t need men, just sperm!😱

Human ancestors evolved over millions of years. Fossils have been found all over Africa. I don't understand the point of this article.

Fantastic. I wonder who lives there now and if they’ve done anything with the garden. There used to be this bloody apple tree that the kids would keep eating from, regardless of me telling them they would make them sick!

It is only logical that modern humans, i.e. Homo Sapiens, would have evolved and remained where the sources of nutrients were easily available and plentiful just as any animals tend to do.
And then, as the pressures of population growth and climatic changes occurred then groups would have spread out to find and follow these greener corridors, slowly but surely colonizing and populating newer regions as they went.
