This is great! I am so glad to live in this time of historic discoveries!

Absolutely fascinating. I have used pitch before and would never have thought this stuff was edible. Funny, but a similar technology (from the other end) is being used here. A scientist on San Juan Island discovered one could find out a lot of information about animals, especially Orca whales through their scat. Dogs have been trained to sniff out scat from boats. Once retrieved it is examined and the general health of the whale can be determined. My one question on the pitch gum, is it sugar-free or with sugar????
Maybe it could be marketed today as Paleo gum lol

Well I'd reckon it would a No Added Sugars type gum but have no idea what it would taste like naturally.
Though I have tried, many times, the 'chewing gum' Australia Aborigines have used for thousands of years.
Usually it comes from Wattle Trees (Acacias) and is a type of sap exuded from them, it has mixed taste of slightly bitter at first followed by a sweeter taste as it is chewed later,, great for quenching the thirst when out walking in Outback.
