I'll say this to all of you who have ASC/D that are non-verbal. They are unlikely to begin to vocalise after around the age of 6 apart from those wonderful 'eee' noises and deep belly laughs. I have the pleasure of working with these excellent people. I can confirm that they do communicate via many different mediums. Just watch them and enjoy their personal styles of 'talking' to you. Once you tune in to them then it becomes easier. Remember they understand a lot more than many professionals say they can. You just have to be with them. Music, picture cards, drawings, touch, aromas, glances, facial expressions, body positions and postures are all telling you something. They will share a similar sense of humour to their age group. Often this can be a very dry sense of irony and sarcasm - at least in Britain!
For me when I finish a shift, I bugger off home but I know it is often a hard journey for you all, be strong and enjoy the good times. When you can, take time for yourselves. If you get support, I hope they are as great as the team as I'm part of. All the best

Good morning
Well I tell you it’s been a long Rocky bumpy road
To much to type , lol I kept all his journals from school they use to log in and say how was his day at my request
I’m not sure how what happen autism sucks it’s a raw deal some daus I can be strong and others I cannot
At 30 he has gotten thru a lot that only he knows what he feels just like you or I but have to be supervised
Well thanks for the interest
I’m new to this site and when time permits I’ll check in
Any question feel free to ask
I have one is your son on any medication ?

@Sunrise55 Thanks for sharing. My son isn't on any medication. Do they treat autism with medication? I don't think I've of heard of that. Does that help? My son is verbal and functions fairly well, so I don't face a lot of the challenges that you do. My son is 9 and in 4th grade now. He really struggles with controlling his emotions at school. Along with autism, my son is also ADHD. He doesn't take any medicationd for that either. But I'm thinking when my son gets to middle school we may have to consider some medication for him to help with the ADHD.

Posted by altschmerzI was diagnosed with autism by a psychologist after a day of testing, but my current therapist keeps saying she doesn't think I have it (or I'm a "little bit" autistic).
