Hi all, I was diagnosed earlier this year with ASD, however I have not found any resources I was promised. I have been trying to get help to become independent etc. Everyone lies to me though, VR said I would have to for the government services I was entitled to. Disability said I didn't work enough in the past, because I have never been able to keep a job! I'm frusterated by total disregard of society! I spent so much time homeless running away from abusive situations because I had no choice! I'm sick of everyone mocking me, telling me I could get help if I wanted it. Every help option I have looked for has done nothing!

Read everything by Donna Williams whom I have found mega inspiring (though we would have appeared different when children) who is also called Polly Samuels (she married a Mr Samuels and Polly always was an alternative to Donna). There's a lot of inspired autistic / Asperger authors. I basically am my own coach and I extrapolate principles from what I read and invent ways of applying them. I'm patient with my own neurology and physiology. Plastic bags sometimes make my hands hurt (not badly though). I get most diseases with an "atypical" style of symptoms. I am in the spectrum of having a normal way of being normal.

I stopped accepting the "advice" to not think. I was born to think and now that I am going back to it, my life is getting back on the rails. I also have a "masked dyslexic" way of reading. I coached myself in my ADD by reading Kelly & Ramundo. As I'm dyspraxic I figured out a way of arranging things more practically and I consciously reinvent the way I do things, and it internalises, though about 100 times more slowly than anyone else. I'm proud of my interests and tastes.

My sense of aesthetics is geared mainly to the ordered and practical. It was Donna who gave me the idea that when I have for example paperwork that is only half finished, I can arrange it parallel to or at 45 degrees to the furniture, to "hit the eye" more easily, rather than higgledy piggledy. "Manuals of diseases" say it's pathological to keep my bookcase, or my cupboard of tinned veg, tidy, well ;;;;; to them. In music I like harmonies and rhythms best - Haydn and John Fogerty.

Posted by altschmerzI was diagnosed with autism by a psychologist after a day of testing, but my current therapist keeps saying she doesn't think I have it (or I'm a "little bit" autistic).
