Just finished reading "Where The Crawdads Sing" by Delia Owens. It's about a woman who was abandoned by her family in the 1950's and she grows up alone in the swamps of North Carolina. Always beign an outsider, when a murder occurs, she becomes the primary suspect. It's very good.

Said I would and I did 
really the best book I've read in a long while. I was going to borrow it from the library but probably would've been 6 months before I got it. I decided if it was that good I would buy it.

My sister usualy gets gooks form teh library, and if she reall loves it, then she'll buy a copy for herself. I hope the autor writes more books. The first one was really good..
Another one that my colleagues and I loved: Educated by Tara Westover. Memoir of a girl raised in somewhat isolation by anti-government conspiracy-nut religious zealot parents, who goes to school for the first time at age 17. No spoilers, but she prevails in her education.
Right up your alley if you loved Kya in Crawdads.

I read that one a few weeks ago and LOVED it. I've shared it with colleagues in the school where I work and everyone has loved it.
I went to Book Expo America in NYC last year in May and it was one of the books I could have gotten a ARC (Advance Reader Copy) of, but I didn't get it. I was so BUMMED! I had to wait for it to hit bookstores.
I would recommend The Marsh King's Daughter as a great read also.

I think 6 or 8? I can't remember. Her mother left early, and her siblings too, then he father would leave her alone for days or weeks until he finally never came back. Maybe by the time he was finally gone for good she was 8.
