Religious school boards in Ontario: "Canada prides itself on being inclusive, yet we have a system that privileges one group over the other. Why don’t children of other religions get to attend schools of their religion for free?"
(In Quebec, we abolished religious school boards in 1998. I suggest our neighbors do the same)

Religion should not be in schools. There are more than enough churches that teach their dogma. School should teach critical thinking.

Honestly soothing to read the takes on this site so far!
I've noticed quite a few of your comments resonate with me. Actually, it was part of the reason I joined here to begin with. Discovering that open mindedness and pragmatism survives is a comfort in our surreal global reality.
On the matter at hand, I agree with you whole-hardheartedly that allowing this duelism within our communities, that of striving for liberal inclusivity while reinforcing (elitist?) segregation, is Not what Canada should strive for. Reinforcing insular ideologies may be the place of internal family decisions, but not for Publicly funded, public institutions that are about nurturing bonds between all peoples from a vast array of ethnicities into one cohesive civil Canadian society.
Urrggh... frustrating how us human creatures, of all stripes, just can't help but glare into the differences betwixt one another. Always demanding to righteously impose restrictions on anothers autonomy for a host of ingenious mystically divined reasons. If only we could so simply cast a spell where a House of Worship is to religious indoctrination, as Schools are to an empirically informative critical review of the universe we coexist with. Wonders that could do for the mechanics of modern society.
