My mother's side of the family has been Canadians. During the American Revolution, my great great great grandfather and family were run out of New York State and on into Canada for siding with the King of Great Brittan, my ancestors were known as "Tory's"

My ancestors sailed over to Canada back in 1753, we fought the French and the Native Peoples and defended against the Americans when they decided to stop being British and again when these ex-British people tried to make us Americans. Cousins fighting cousins, brothers fighting brothers and all over an imaginary line on a map. Loyalist College is in the closest city to my home in Kingston (King's Town) there is a Loyalist Parkway and the city of Kingston was the original capital of Canada until it was moved to the more strategic location of Ottawa because of the new threat created by the American rebels.
This article gives a better understanding of how North America looks when divided along cultural lines instead of national borders and explains a lot about our similarities and our differences.
