I read something John D. Lee wrote about it firsthand as he was waiting for his sentence of death to be carried out. I can't remember now where I found it. It was incredibly eye opening.

The book was written by Juanita Brooks who lived in southern Utah. I heard her speak once. She was once targeted by J.Reuben Clark as someone who needed to be "silenced." She feared for her life.

Oh yes, Young was a homicidal bastard and they know it, but since most of their major assets are name after the old see you next Tuesday they have to keep on slapping away with the white wash.
It is mainly because of his twaddle they had to disavow the JOD and not one single original teaching of Bring'em Young is still considered official church doctrine.
He is the weird creepy Uncle of Mormonism; the one you have to keep inviting to family gatherings, but hope he won't show up, or if he does has to be kept in a corner with his hands full and with cousin Knuckles keeping an eye on him.
