  1. As a scientist, he has some obligation to keep an open mind. 2. As scientific research has always survived under the watchful eye of delusional religionists, occasionally paying lip service to the wackos can make a difference.

During his time here...he did pay homage to the "wackos"...

From Wikipedia: Einstein spoke of his spiritual outlook in a wide array of original writings and interviews.[179] He said he had sympathy for the impersonal pantheistic God of Baruch Spinoza's philosophy.[180] He did not believe in a personal god who concerns himself with fates and actions of human beings, a view which he described as naïve.[181] He clarified, however, that "I am not an atheist",[182] preferring to call himself an agnostic,[183][184] or a "deeply religious nonbeliever".

Saying that he wasn't atheist and claiming alliance with Spinoza could be interpreted as paying homage... I doubt he would really have a problem with true definition of atheist, versus the Christian definition.

Posted by RobecologyI don't get the whole "God is master, humans slaves" religulous POV...but it obviously was a thing a few decades ago; and as an agnostic...it does seem religulous...
