Pinker’s a bit of an ideologue. He started off after his linguistics work as a popularizing cheerleader for evolutionary psychology, attacking the hated bogey of the “standard social science model”, but more recently pivoted into reflexive anti-wokeness.

Enlightenment Now had some good points as did How the Mind Works but his polemicism is a bit hard to stomach really. He glossed over some of the nasty stuff done in the name of research. He touched on the Tuskegee syphilis research but didn’t mention Guatemala research in Enlightenment Now. His treatment of Adorno and Horkheimer who famously critiqued the enlightenment was very superficial. He’s definitely pushing an agenda. Some of Enlightenment Now came across as not too different from Cato Institute talking points.
