I use Pro Tools HDX with a C24 interface. Here are some links to it's bundled virtual instruments as well as a short training video.

What I like is Finale. I can compose, and then play it back.
As far as playing electronic music, I prefer to play an acoustic string bass, made before
the light bulb was invented, and my hands like people have done for thousands of years.
All the electronic music will be obsolete in a decade, but an old Italian bass will still
be hip 100 year or more in the future.
