I was already working in MS's C# and VB.Net, Visual Studio (VS) was free. Ultimately, MS picked up Xamarin and put that right into VS. I have a small app in mind, will be able to use Xamarin to create one that'll run on Android and Apple phones. Will use QR codes to locate files on the web to download and display.

The big disadvantage is that there are a lot of apps available to the other two platforms that we don't get. The only complaint I have otherwise is that the notifications for missed phone calls and voice messages gives you once chance to see it and is easy to miss. Otherwise, I don't have any complaints.
