Australia makes a defense pact with the UK (historic empire) and the US (empire in decline). In this deal Australia can be used as a staging area and depot by the US/ UK and gets to lease their weapons of war rather than be independently purchased and run.

The US and UK just gave details of collaborators to the Taliban in Afghanistan. This release of classified information to a declared enemy puts these people in direct danger. No-one will be disciplined for this major security breach by the US or UK.
Meanwhile there is an Australian rotting in jail in the UK awaiting extradition to the US. The alleged crime? Publishing classified information that showed war crimes being committed, with a main argument of the prosecution being the public release of this information puts lives in danger. Their agents, people who work with them.

Considering the clusterfuck of 20years in Afghanistan, abandoning Kurds, NATO/ UK's role in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, the treatment of one of our citizens.........we can only assume Australia is now a fully fledged vassal of the US, to go down with the sinking empire. Because I cannot see how this deal is in our country's interest and we could of at least insisted Assange be freed of legal persecution by them, especially if nothing is pursued regarding the lists given to the Taliban by both the UK and US. Great allies.
