I was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma in 2011. In 2013 my brother received the exact same diagnosis. I recently had my genes tested and I was negative for every cancer marker they had, so it must be environmental.

As for Roundup, I worked with a group called Right to Know for a few years and I will not buy anything that is genetically engineered. I know they push the line that genetic modification has been around forever... and they are correct... However, GM was always done by a farmer's hand... crossing two similar plants to create a new or better variety. Genetic Engineering is a whole nuther thing. It's done in a laboratory and involves introducing DNA from dissimilar sources, sometimes even bacteria, to make a new or better variety. GE crops do not feed the world as they tell us. Most GE crops are used to feed factory farm animals and tests show that they are unhealthy as a result. Almost all of the corn and soy you find in the stores is genetically engineered unless it is marked organic.

So if you want to be safe, read the produce codes on the fruit. If there are only four numbers in the code, this means that the produce was grown conventionally or “traditionally” with the use of pesticides. For example, a banana is 4011. If it starts with an 8 followed by 4011, it is genetically engineered and most likely loaded with glyphosate... and a 9 followed by 4011 means it's organic.

I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis -- good luck.

Also. Thanks for the produce code info. I'd always assumed that the numbers were just for inventory control and pricing (don't ya love that word 'assumed' ). I didn't know they were standardized and quality-significant. I'll spend some time studying -- thank you again.

@RichCC Thank you Rich for your good wishes. We are both fine, fortunately. I've been 7 years cancer free and 5 for my brother thanks to good doctors and modern medicine.

I believe very few people know how to interpret the produce codes. I may post that to a more widely read message board here.

Interesting. I wish I understood all the nuances of the Bayer/Monsanto/Roundup situation.
Bayer has certainly been trying to play the good guy recently. But as far as I know they still own Roundup.
(But I haven't studied all the detail yet.)

Don't think it would be much use in my case.
