I've recently discovered a knack for clay sculpting. I've been working on this lady for a couple of days now. It's slowly coming together, piece by piece. Are there any other sculptors out there? I'm new, so I'm still learning through trial and errors. Any tips and tricks would be appreciated. The illustration is my inspiration for this piece.
Hey Abbie how are you ? Hope all is well with you ? My name is Brian, living in Ireland Europe from Amsterdam ,the Netherland.
I'm a Irish based Sculpture, My Question is what Clay are you using ?
,and if its Eaerh clay you should when you finish spray it with water , and cover the Sculpting piece with a refuse bag, aka a garbage bag, and spray the bag with water.
As well, then you can leave your sculpture, and come back to it without the fear of it chipping. Let me know how you get on?
Cheers from an Irish Sculpture
Brian .
Good job and I love your username! ♥
Lol! Yes! I'm a big fan of Mel Brooks! And I am a professional sculptor. I could offer tips but I'm not sure you need it. What kind of clay is it? and does it have any armature?
I don't work a lot in clay but I think a lot of people use the air dry paper clay with success, I've made small stuff. and you did the right thing adding the armature. I would Google tutorials on YouTube and see what others are doing to manage it. I have worked in paper mache which similar, oil clay and mostly in foam. But I think you should keep going and if it cracks you can use more clay to fill it? right? I'm interested in making dolls so found this. I'm sure there are lots of others. What kind of tools are you using and are you working it dry? sanding etc? Do you have a Dremmel? Sorry all the questions, not a lot of sculptors here, lol
[facebook.com] heres a link to my fb album of us making plaster cast from wet clay using plaster mold . hope it's helpful
@AbbieNormal Yes, the separation lines are cut into the clay and then small overlapping pieces plastic are inserted . forms the different sections of the mold . then a thin layer of plaster is splashed over the sculpture and let dry before a heaver layer of plaster , this protects final casting from chisel damage during the final demolding . feel free to check out my other albums . the album life cast and the album art by friends may be of interest .
That's a pretty good discovery ya got going on there, it is amazing!!
