This weekend I hiked the Deep Creek Loop from the Atheist naval base in the Deep Creek campground. My GPS app tells me I went 8.73 miles round trip, From campsite to the store at the park entrance, and back up Deep Creek Loop along the Creek. I left my Water bottle at home and went to buy a liter of water at the little store. Did the Junywhank falls loop coming and going, So that added some mileage on my total too. The day was coolish Mid 80's when i started my walk. Got on the trail before the Tubers ( Root like vegetables who float on round rubber tubes and scream very very loudly that the water is cold ever few seconds) Crowded the trail so much it was hard to walk. The tuber infestation is only for the first mile. Once the Trail starts to gain A little elevation they thin out and disappear. Also nice is horses aren't allowed on the trail, So no piles of horse dung to avoid. Its a very nice walk and an easy grade, the sound of the creek is a nice soundtrack to the walk till the loop climbs Sunkota Ridge and starts its turn back to Deep creek. The Guide Book says you gain about 600 feet in elevation. The Jununywhank falls loop does that in less than a 1/4 mile. Was really proud of myself going up the backside of the loop on the return trip. Its almost Straight up, stopped once to let a family of Japanese people pass on the trail and tell them it was only a half a km back to the creek and didn't need to catch my breath to do it! Pics !
