Today Karen and I hiked For the Boys trail above Ski Hill, Leavenworth, WA. We gained 1,000 feet in elevation over three miles, for six miles total. Mountain bikers galore.
Wildflowers bloom in waves. We found rare, white Ghost Orchids in the shade at certain elevations. Honeysuckle vines (deep orange flowers) climbed trees and boulders. This is the tail end of the Tiger Lily bloom.
So far in 2018, I have hiked 138 miles with 21,744 feet in elevation gain. In the winter, I keep going using snowshoes and micro-spikes.
My bug net is hooked to my pack and dangling. I'd better tuck it in somewhere. It goes over my hat, head and shoulders.
I wonder if morel mushrooms inhabit your region ?...? Are the pine nuts safe to eat there ?
Yes, morel mushroom grow after wildfires. Morels are hard to find. Professional morel mushroom hunters from Seattle strip the woods like locusts. It's maddening.
I found these morels in May 2017 the day after it rained, growing next to burned stumps. Mushrooms need moisture. They were near a creek after a massive wildfire.
The only Pinyon trees I have seen were in growing in the Southwest (New Mexico).

Posted by CallMeDaveI've never been a big wildflower person, but this is the season for it here in Appalachia. Other people can identify every variety. I'm not there yet.
