Hi all. While I am not a registered Libertarian (conservative-leaning independent), I do agree that the two-party system in our country has got to go. This chart says it like it is-
I tend to refer to myself as a small "l" libertarian. I have been a party member but refused to renew after the 2016 LNC debacle and their ludicrous VP candidate. Most libertarians I know are minarchists and tend to be fiscally conservative and socially liberal. I would not say most are conservative leaning although the Democrats have been very unpalatable since Trump was elected. I consider TRump to be a giant toddler, but I still think he is a lesser evil than Hillary.
Financially conservative and socially liberal would describe me fairly well, which is why neither side appeals to me. I'm also conservative when it comes to our rights, as opposed to the liberal left who have that herd mentality and they do not believe in individual liberty.
It does not show the Totalitarians, who are the libertarians opposite, who believe government should be in control of everything. They belong on the bottom of the chart.
The totalitarians you speak of sound very similar to modern day Democrats...
@SpikeTalon, Democrats and Republicans are compromising by trading social government controls for economic government controls. They are not compromising by trading for freedoms. This way, we are incrementally marching toward totalitarianism. Witness the federal budget, deficit, and debt. Add to that federal unfunded liabilities, and the same at the state, local, and municipal level.
We're getting there, unless our debt sinks us first.
@GlyndonD Indeed so, and not a good thought it is...
@SpikeTalon, hey, then let's think about something happy, like the royal wedding of Prince Harry and new-Princess Meghan.
@GlyndonD Damn man...now I'm getting depressed...you just had to mention that pointless wedding now didn't you?
@SpikeTalon, well, I'm beginning to think this is all a part of a movement to bring the English monarchs back as Head of State for the USA.
@GlyndonD You may very well be correct about that, the way things are going in this country sure does make me wonder...
@SpikeTalon, oh, how I ove those Royals! Is there anything else we can do to make their lives even more storybook fairytale? And they love their Subjects like me so much, too. What a wonderful relationship we have. Definitely worthy of state support through my tax dollars. Thank you, Your Majesty; may I have another?
Not.
The basic libertarian philosophy is free minds and free markets. I like Thoreau's idea of simplify, simplify, simplify. The farther one deviates from from that basic philosophy the less libertarian you are. These guys like Rand Paul and Paul Ryan are so far from it they don't deserve to be called libertarian, but the enemies of freedom point to their actions to denigrate libertarians.
Ron Paul was pretty good, even running as a Republican.
@GlyndonD Yeah, I met Ron once. He was the closest to a libertarian we have ever had on the national level. I still disagreed with him on several things.
This belief system is an insult to thinking.
I think what you mean is that this kind of thinking is an insult to beliefs.
I am a registered Libertarian. You should try it. It's what Freedom feels like
I questioned the organization as soon as they would allow me to be a member.
Posted by SpikeTalonI kneel before no one. No gods, no masters, no control freaks. Screw the tyrants from both political extremes, and their agendas.
Posted by SpikeTalonNeither one of the extremes, and yet the best of both worlds...
Posted by SpikeTalonSubstitute the word liberals for progressives, and that would describe me as well. As for the conservative part, the socially/theocratic (aka, bible thumpers, mostly) ones in particular.
Posted by SpikeTalonIndividuality is a dirty word to the authoritarians (both left and right) in the world.
