Hi, I'm wondering if this a good place for me. I'm not an addict but I am in recovery, having lost my son to an overdose and one of my daughters is an addict in recovery. I go to Alanon type meetings, but it's difficult being an atheist and living in GA.

Of coarse this is a good place for you. You will find that 90% of people here are super supportive. There is a occasional troll but I think this site does a super good job of weeding them out. I've never been to Alanon. But years ago I had a serious alcohol problem and was court ordered to go to AA. I hated it at first but found that I could take the good out of it and forget about the whole higher power thing. Just having support from the people and things I learned about myself there helped me. I cherry picked the program and I think you will find you can do the same with alanon. As far as Georgia goes, well......Im sorry. I'm sure it's difficult living there being an Atheist. I couldn't even imagine. I have no advice on that one but wish you the best. What keeps you there? Maybe consider moving your whole family. Lol. I don't know what else to say.

"Difficult" has to be an understatement. It has to be lonely being surrounded by the lunacy. I hope you do find what you're looking for, and that perhaps the folks here can have a positive part in that.
