If the history of humanity is corrupt and inaccurate should it be taught in school?

As long as the victor writes the tale.

Maybe that's the basis for all the tales of Jesus - humanity is crap but someone keeps hoping there is something higher, better, kinder and gentler so they wrote stories.

Yes!! I do believe we need to teach the good, the bad and the ugly. ALL of it or one does not get perspective.

@DonaldHRoberts Of course. Most history is out there but if it's cherry picked and the kids are not interested the truth never get out unless maybe one lone kid is like I don't think that's correct. Archeologists bring all manner of things to light to change the tale. What do you think will be the main take away on trump, the gop and family 100 years from now?

History will always be inaccurate because as time goes on the perspective of the time it was written and the time it is being taught will have changed. I look at things I learned in the 70's in schools today with different eyes and mind frame than I did then. Plus as things become old the secrets are no longer a threat we learn more and more as things get released to the public. Yes we need to study our past to better understand our future.

Yes!

I once read that to know history accurately is realistically impossible. Historical occurrences were experienced, reported, explained differently by divergent individuals. It's difficult to get a true historical context from dissimilar sources. To put all the pieces of history together well is a formidable task, which realistically can never be an all-inclusive last word on a subject.

That would go against the people in power wanting people to actually be educated about their corruption and inaccuracies. It would lead to people thinking too much and knowing what to look for to protect against it.

.....but yes it should be taught.

Teach history in schools? Yes!

By learning from history, it is hoped that future generations will learn from the past so as not to repeat history’s failed actions.

The problem today isn’t that we teach or don’t teach history. The problem is two-fold. First, it’s that there are many different perspectives from which to teach and learn. And, second, what we teach, we don’t teach well enough.
