I have always been uncomfortable about religion. I was raised Catholic, but hated it. When I turned 17, I quit the religion. I don't believe one needs to have a belief in a deity to be a moral, valuable human being.
I raised five children without religion, and they all have great, compassionate personalities, believe in fairness and humanity, and make me proud to be their mom. I do look forward to meeting like-minded people, because I've disassociated myself from some friends who push their beliefs too much. Some were downright hypocritical in their behavior, and I just couldn't overlook it any longer.
Morals and values, empathy, honesty, love and compassion are traits I look for in a friend.
