One of the curious things about the Clovis Culture is how established the idea that it was the first New World culture got. So much so that when they hit the Clovis layers, they stopped digging. When Monte Verde finally completely proved there were pre-Clovis people in the Americas, archaeologists revisited some Clovis sites and kept digging, and at some of them found pre-Clovis materials. Oops, the evidence had been there all along. Not surprising, scientists can be as blinded by preconceptions as anyone. Most of them though eventually come around when evidence challenging their pre-conceptions is presented.
