A high percentage of the most creative high IQ people are somewhere on the autism spectrum..I know I probably am since I can be totally content alone, pursuing my obsessive goals.

@McVinegar 30 years in commercial construction left me partly deaf but I have an autistic cousin who is very sensitive, have to watch myself I am speaking around him.

@McVinegar If you ever played with the Cramps then we have friends in common.

@McVinegar I feel awful giving you a thumbs up for going deaf and blind....... but don't have a button expressing concern and empathy..........

@McVinegar 😀

FutureLearn offers an enlightening online course free from the University of Kent called "Understanding Autism". I heartily recommend it.

Never. Autism $peaks sucks money from local communities for no return, and has a long history of insulting Autistic people.

Autistic People Spark Twitter Fight Against Autism Speaks, claim they are making them second class citizens, trying to "cure" them as though they were no good. [buzzfeed.com] via @virginiahughes

@TaraMarshall @birdingnut I wear blue to support some of the parents at work who wear blue.

@pixiedust, anyone who wears a color publicized by Autism $peaks is no supporter of Autistic people.

@TaraMarshall That's your opinion, Tara. I support the parents of autistic children who have asked me to wear blue. I know nothing about the agency to which you refer. I am simply showing solidarity with people I know for whatever reason they choose to wear blue. Do not attack me or my motives since you do not understand either nor do you know the work I do for people with disabilities. I do not appreciate ad hominem attacks - look it up if you don't know what that means. (Also, every time you respond, I get points, so thank you for your support.)

@pixiedust Here's some more points TM 😀

@pixiedust ........ and some more.........

@pixiedust, @TaraMarshall We have the same problem in Western Australia. The main provider of autism services gets massive funding and spends 98% of it on newly diagnosed kids. Adults are left to fend for themselves, or even discouraged from seeking assistance because they will require funding. This especially impacts adult women who are only now being diagnosed with (what used to be called) Asperger's Syndrome. Much of the funding for autistic children gets spent on attempts to channel them into conforming to neurotypical behavior. Fail!

@Abbelyne, I know full well what an ad hominem attack is, but when you explicitly disrespect thousands of people who have made our preferences known all over the internet, you certainly deserve it. Wearing blue helps preserve a male-oriented, DEFECTIVE vision of Autism that is promoted by one specific organization that is known for discriminating against Autistic people, namely, Autism $peaks.

@TaraMarshall Hang on......... hang on........ I think you've mistaken me for someone else!!! Weren't you having this argument with Pixiedust? I'm in Australia and know nothing about wearing blue! You've got the wrong person!

@Abbelyne Thank you 🙂

@Abbelyne I suspect a lot of organizations are like that - more programs for children while adults have to fend for themselves. I don't know why. I don't even know how a person could find out what's out there and what would be useful. I would probably give up and just muddle along on my own.

Posted by altschmerzI was diagnosed with autism by a psychologist after a day of testing, but my current therapist keeps saying she doesn't think I have it (or I'm a "little bit" autistic).
