As a formerly auburn-haired now-bald guy I am jealous of any whom are full-headed, whether ginger or otherwise.
I am currently re-reading Peter Ackroyd's history of England series. There are political issues we are dealing with today which seem to have their roots centuries ago, or at least are a reflection of issues which we continue to have to this day: intrigue, backbiting, lying, war....a most interesting read....
I am currently reading Foundation by Peter Ackroyd, which book are you on?
I like the book alot so far, (Much more then his massive book, London! Chock full of info, yet dry as kindling.) And looking forward to continuing.
I am rereading Foundation, read the three books I can find of the series, also starting to reread The Saxon Chronicles by Bernard Cornwall, from which the BBC series The Last Kingdom is derived. I need to find everything written by Ackroyd though. I thoroughly live his writing.
That's what I find so fascinating about history, undercovering the deep roots of what we take to be contemporary That the letters of our alphabet evolved from ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt, our concept of what constitutes theatre and the look of an attractive male body from ancient Greece, law and republican democracy from Rome, our gardens from the Renaissance, Easter and Halloween from Celtic paganism... and Christmas? Don't get me started
ive been trying to come up with a pithy quote to pass on to posterity. so far this is what ive got: "nothing is now as it was; nothing will be as it is"......whatcha think? lame, huh?
I have no time to waste on reading. I have to take care of my hair!
haha! even when i had hair it only took me like three minutes to deal with it in the mornings and done!
Personally I find bald very sexy. Next favorite is salt & pepper or full out grey hair.
ive seen some men (and women) with a shorn pate and some of them rock it very well. im not sure my oblong and bumpy noggin are in that league. and mostly gray otherwise....
Sounds like a good read. I just finished a lightweight novel about the War of the Roses. History doesn't seem to help us change our ways. I often wonder if Darwin's theory of reproducing our own tribe, survival of the fittest, and fight or flight weighs heavier than we can imagine
we are creatures of habit and our habit is to revert to form whenever threatened, or confronted with an opportunity to subjugate: usually with violence... sad to say, but the animal in us comes out easily....
History is bound to repeat itself. Events and movements only arise under the requisite conditions - in the same way that plants need sunlight, water, and nutrients - so that, for example, feudalism can't take root in the presence of a strong central government, but has flourished whenever central authority weakens and local control falls to warlords, be it in medieval Europe, shogunate Japan, or today's Afghanistan.
Posted by MynamehereAnyone really into reading apocalyptic fiction right now?
Posted by AmelieMatisseMy latest read. I really though I was well informed about this era. Sadly I was not.
Posted by AmelieMatisseI went to a lecture by author Richard Rothstein. If you are interested in learning how our government segregated this country, you will find this book fascinating

Posted by GuyKeithAnyone here like Joseph Heller? You may be familiar with Catch-22, but have you read his other books, especially Something Happened? If anyone has read it, let me know. I would like to discuss it.
