I wish mine was a lap kitty! I think she wants to be, but she seems afraid. I think she was abused in her past life before she came to the shelter I got her from. Someday.

Mine aren't either, & I wish they were.
One of mine was the runt of the litter , though ever abused by humans , she was reluctant to feel worthy of lap space . Although she hated being picked up , I did pick her p a couple of times and sit her on my lap , so she would know she was invited . ALthiugh her brother tyoically spends most of the night on my lap , she has times when he's not around , that she will join me .
