When I became a father I learned what it's like to love someone more than life itself. I grew up with dogs and always considered myself a dog person. But then I got a cat and she was just a cat. But then I got THIS cat, and he is very different, a cornish rex and the best way I can describe him is is cat who thinks it's a dog but one with a psychiatric disorder that made it think it was a cat. Now I know what it is like to love an animal more than life itself.
What a beauty he is! My last cat was a Cornish Rex and I completely support your definition, particularly the part about loving her more than life itself. She totally spoiled us for other animals with what an affectionate, interactive velco cat she was for over 21 years. We still reminisce about her regularly.
Yours lived to 21? Mine was a rescue and I think about 2 when I got him and he still acts like a kitten. As apposed to our other, a more common breed, who is about the same age and who acts like an old lady. If I had the space time and money I want an oriental short hair and a Maine Coon. But for the time, one crazy attention hogging cat is enough.
@ThomasLevi Yeah, we knew we were lucky but still weren't ready for her to go. We'd had her since she was 8 weeks old, and it was really only the last five years that she acted more sedately like other cats. I would pet-sit dogs and cats for friends and even though she was smaller than all of them, she was faster and quickly asserted her queenliness. She eventually became quieter, too, which was kind of a relief. I hope he was rescued from someone who couldn't stand his cry instead of someone who neglected him.
@Lauren I didn’t get the whole story, but I think it was just an older woman who couldn’t handle his energy or neediness. When I took him in, they told me he was a spynx Because he’s mostly bald, just peach fuzz. At the time, I didn’t even know what a Cornish Rex was, You might actually be a mix because the only hair he has is on his front legs, which look like leggings, and his tail and he has the screwed up whiskers.
Unlike the other cat, he cannot be trusted be outside because he wanders off and gets lost. I have an AirTag on him so I can track him down, I’ll put a leash on him and walk him home. But mostly, he likes to ride on my shoulders. He also like it on my head if I’m standing, still, he has to be high up. He has a 7’ tall cat tower.
@ThomasLevi That makes sense because they are a handful if someone is expecting a quiet, sit-on-my-lap kind of cat. Ours loved being attached to whoever was home at the time but I think there are people who don't care for that much togetherness, and maybe she was overwhelmed by that.
He clearly adores you (it seems reciprocal) and togetherness suits you, so what a great match you two are!
I grew up with cats and dogs. I like dogs, but they're high maintenance compared to cats. We had a golden retriever when my kids were growing up, he was THE Bestest Doggo ever! I spent lots of time training him. But then I got divorced and could not take him with me, we rehomed him to a great home, and he passed about a year later. When he was 4 we got a kitten, and she quickly became his boss, it was hysterical to see her play with his tailfeathers. After she passed I got another cat, and now I have two. I have had cats most of my life, and plan to always have cats. My kids all had cats as well. One kid doesn't have a cat right now because she lives in the Netherlands and comes back to the USA twice a year.

Posted by LaurenIt's my first grand's fifth Gotcha Day and this is her in the arms of my daughter as they drove home.
Posted by LaurenIt would be warmer for us both if he'd get on my lap, but it has to be his idea - though he still likes to stay close.
