Raccoons are very clever. And sneaky devils. And they do have a mind of their own. Several years ago I was coming home from work at 1 am, and there was a convention of about 5 or 6 raccoons in the middle of the street. I had to stop the car and blow the horn to get them to move, and even then, they gave me "What's your problem" looks before they moved out of the street.
I bottle fed 11 orphan baby raccoons in 3 years while going to high school... they are very intelligent creatures.
What a treat for a teen (or anyone).
I wish I could run off the trash pandas that have been wreaking havock around here. They do have skills
Smart little guys. They would probably make good pets if we had better control of them...worse than a cat when it comes to minds of their own.
@EyesThatSmile There's a few people around here who have them as pets ( rescues from dead mother situations). They seem to do quite well
