21/08/2018 - Diet Diary - Did you have a great "diet" day or did it not go so well?

Mine wasn't quite where I wanted it, around 1250 calories so a little higher than my goal but not catastrophic. Was good until I went out and did yard work and I swear I could smell popcorn. So, I ended up making some popcorn. It was "healthy pop" so better than cheesy or caramel corn but still, pushed me over my preferred level.

I did stay slightly (.6 lb) below my intermediate goal so now it is time to set my next goal. I made it a little larger than I originally planned but did some figuring and checking some charts (dang, this can be complicated) and decided that I would set the next goal at 16 pounds. Since it is higher, I'm not sure I will get there before T-giving, in 13 weeks but hope so as I would like to get into maintenance mode in time for the holidays. Guess I'll see how it goes. Slow and steady, that's how it has gone so far so will keep it up.

I hope the popcorn was air-popped. Dang popcorn has a lot of calories... even w/o all the fat they want you to have with it.

No, it was microwave but it was the "healthy pop" stuff so minimal oil. Calories 120 for 5.5 cups, which is a lot of popcorn.

@DotLewis Whoa... I want some of YOUR popcorn! Air-popped popcorn with no oil is 31 cal per cup. That's 170 cals for 5.5 cups! How's that work I wonder?

@mtnhome OK, had to have misread the label. Bad on me!

Damn, I went and checked and I didn't misread other than it was just 5 cups instead of 5.5. It ways on the front of the box that it is 20 calories per cup. It is "Jolly Time" brand and on reading carefully, they are off on not just calories but it says the bag makes 12.5 cups of popped corn. I have a hard time believing there is that much popcorn in the bag. Guess I will have to do some reassessment of my popcorn consumption, at least if it is microwave. I checked a box of Act II microwave that I have and it is the same way, says it is 25 calories per cup and it is not the "healthy" version.

I guess the lesson in this is in calorie counting, don't necessarily trust the numbers the manufacturer puts on the package. Thanks for a heads up.

@DotLewis I use fatsecret dot com for all my calorie data. I've found lots of cases where the factory "food" is under-counted on calories and fat contents. I stay away from factory food as much as possible for lots of reasons.
