30/08/2018- Diet Diary- only one day left in August. Fall is on the way. Tomatoes are finally ripening. Tomato and kale garden provides lots of healthy, low cal stuff.
Calorie count for today, around 1100. Supper was a LARGE salad, needed to use rest of a head of Romaine lettuce and some garden tomatoes. Was going to go higher on calories, planned to take 2 slices of pecan pie I had in the freezer over to share with my neighbor who had her 95th birthday today. Her family turned up unexpectedly, bringing cake so when I got there she had already been sugared well and said she would save her pie for tomorrow so I left her both pieces.
Actually, that was for the best. Pecan pie is for other people. Glad to hear I'm not the only one just starting to get ripe tomatoes. Worst gardening year in my life. One of my tomato "trees" is 7' high and 4' wide, beautiful thick stems and foliage, healthy as can be... and has never started flowering. It would have been amazing! No, don't know the variety. Peppers just starting to produce. I got a few cucumbers, but they're done. And the Brussel Sprouts... well we've a few months to go, but looks like the dogs get them AGAIN this year. The dogs love them... they eat everything but the root ball.
Well, at least someone will enjoy those sprouts. Mine won't touch the kale but do love the tomatoes if I share. My tomatoes also have huge vines, that is the ones that survived. They set on a little late but then got heavy with fruit but after that everything just stalled. The green tomatoes sat on the vines for weeks with no change. I was starting to wonder if I would be making gallons of green tomato jam this year. Then, a couple weeks ago they started to turn and I'm being bombarded now.
The weather was just weird this year, many people have made the same comments their tomatoes. My pear tree also went psycho this summer. It set on pears but for the longest time the didn't grow past about 2 inches. I feared the tree might be on its way out. It usually make loads of huge, delicious Bartletts. Finally a few grew but at least half the crop is stunted, deformed things with little flesh. Not sure what had more impact, the blast of 100+ weather in May or the consistent cool (loved it) nights but something sure was off this year.
Posted by OldMetalHeadI hit a new weight milestone this week. Still trying for the six-pack.
Posted by OldMetalHeadThe hardest part for me is not falling back into old bad habits after meeting goals.

Posted by JonnaBononnaI had finally gotten back on track after gaining back most of the weight I lost a couple of years ago.
Posted by JurneeI have to say, as an overweight karate instructor, this is the one patch that I was ok with never getting.

Posted by DotLewis7 March 2020 - Diet Diary - Been quiet around here lately. I've not been on vacation, just keeping a low profile and trying to stay on top of things. Are those things incompatible?
