I am starting a new health and fitness regime as from today (avoiding calling it a diet). I am starting from a weight of 80 kilos (176 pounds) and aiming for 60 kilos (132 pounds) which is still a lot more than I should be at 4ft 10inches tall, but I think it is a reasonable aim. That is a loss of 44 pounds (20 kilos) which I hope to achieve in about five or six months. I am an emotional eater in an unhappy situation which is unlikely to change in the foreseeable future so I am going to have to use this very kind and supportive group as my main help! I am unable to do much in the wy of exercise at the moment due to arthritis but as the weight goes off I should be able to do more. I think calorie intake is the most important thing though, so that is what I shall concentrate on.

Good for you! Give yourself some short term goals, like losing 15 pounds by Halloween and give yourself a reward for getting there. Doesn't have to be food, just something that will make you feel good. Emotional eating is a tough one, I've struggled with it over the years. Stress is a bitch for me, just want food to make it go away. It's a hard habit to break but having support helps.

I have quite a bit of arthritis, especially in my hands, which have made my art/craft work harder to do. I go to exercise class at the senior center twice a week. They do low impact, light aerobic, flexibility, balance and strength exercises. If there is a senior center or aging council near where you are you might check if they have any kind of physical activity sessions that might work for you. Doing exercise as we get older and stiffer is not easy but it is very important that we keep moving in some way. It can make the difference between being independent into our last years or not.
I look forward to hearing more from you.

I am going to give myself rewards but I haven't decided yet what they will be! I was thinking of something nice for my crafts stash but I have got so much already that one of my resolutions for the autumn/winter is to use up some of what I have already got and finish some of my many unfinished projects. I am not a great one for buying things so I shall have to think hard! I keep moving around the house and garden but I really have to make the effort. It will get easier as I get lighter. I live mostly in a fairly basic Spanish village so there is not much for the elderly, I'm afraid.

Low carbs & watch your sugar & whatever exercise you can do.

Remember, little changes every day grow into a big change in the end. At least that's how I did it anyway.

I wish the best of luck. I have lost 76 lbs with a low carb, high fat way of eating. If i can offer encouragement or a kind word, reach out. Be well.

Thank you. I am going for low carb but with alternate days fasting. I have tried that before and it suits me.

@CeliaVL I do low carb, high fat; 16:8 intermittent fasting and a daily exercise routine. Good luck in your journey.

Posted by OldMetalHeadThe hardest part for me is not falling back into old bad habits after meeting goals.

Posted by JonnaBononnaI had finally gotten back on track after gaining back most of the weight I lost a couple of years ago.

Posted by JurneeI have to say, as an overweight karate instructor, this is the one patch that I was ok with never getting.

Posted by DotLewis7 March 2020 - Diet Diary - Been quiet around here lately. I've not been on vacation, just keeping a low profile and trying to stay on top of things. Are those things incompatible?
