1 April 2019 - Diet Diary - No tricks, just a nice Monday, planted a couple things that I've had in water, inside. Checked kale, some of the plants are going to sprout I think, having made it through winter. Second year plants (get them some years) tend to not be quite as nice but they produce plenty of usable kale. If they don't take off, will get some plants when the greenhouse opens for the season.

Did a little painting, used last of paint from previous container. Tomorrow will start with the new gallon. Got something for the hall wall, found it in the hall "storage" pile (plywood for floor, door for bathroom, etc. Not sure it will be the final thing but for now it is OK, fills the large blank space and covers the screws I cannot reach to remove. I am so NOT looking forward to painting the ceiling but will need to do it as I scraped the "popcorn" off and that left it looking pretty YUCK.

Cut it real short today, stopped at a little under 800 calories. That should shock something. Just worked out that way as I was dealing with the dog and with some errands and other things that had to be done. When evening came and I was quite low, decided I would stay there, not eating more than 67 more calories worth, which would have put me right at 800. Wasn't bad, figured in my cup of coffee so the evening felt complete.
Should be hungry by breakfast time, which is actually at noon as I'm trying to do intermittent fasting again, eating on an 8-16 schedule. Good day to all of you who dropped by.

Still can't do likes, but I like your picture. Looks like my kind of place! Well done for keeping the calories down. I hope you see some results from the shock treatment. That looks like a home-hooked rug there. Do you make rugs? I do, but i have too many now!

Will see how the shock works out after a bit longer. Right now doing a lot of up and down. Should see some general downward movement if it is working.

That is a home hooked rug, although I didn't make that one. I did do some rug hooking but then, kind of like the afghans I made for a while, I ended up with a bunch and didn't know what to do with them. I have a collection of afghans, never put them on the couch because the dogs liked to dig in blankets, throws and such and would tear them up. Gave as gifts to pretty much everyone I could. Finally had to stop crocheting. HATE when I see a beautiful hand made afghan in a thrift store for something like $1. All the work someone put into it but it ends up homeless and unappreciated. At least I do use the rugs, like them by the bed and in front of the couch.

@DotLewis We seem to have a lot in common. I love to knit, cricket, and patchwork, but my family and close friends have all they can use. It gets pointless and dispiriting doing things for no purpose. I paint, too, but I haven't done anything lately because the pictures just pile up to no purpose. I still hope a different time will come though.

@CeliaVL I agree! I like to crochet, do patchwork although my favorite type is doing appliqued blocks. I've made some small "quilts", more wall hanging, baby quilts or bed runner types, not full quilts. My sewing machine is not big enough unless I do quilt as you go, which I am working up to. If I make quilts, they are still OK to give out as they are more time consuming so I don't get a lot of them done.

I never got good at painting but I did a lot of wood carving in the past and some clay sculpture. The woodcarving has gone by the wayside of late. My hands complain about it and I don't know what to do with the stuff. I tend to be very attached to my carvings and worry about where they will go when I'm gone. Figure it might be better to not make too many more.

The silly thing is, I end up giving up doing something that I really used to love because of not knowing what to do with the stuff. The smart solution would probably be to just keep making stuff and let someone else worry about what to do with it. At least I would have the enjoyment of making it. Need to remember that, if nothing else than because I still have a big stockpile of carving wood and a great set of tools.

Here are a couple of my carvings and a table set I did for a friend and a wall hanging "quilt" I also did for her.
Forgot to put them on the previous reply and it wouldn't let me add them in edit.

@DotLewis Thank you for showing me your creations. I particularly luike your wood carvings. And you have given me the idea of doing a small quilt for a wall hanging. I have got fed up with doing big quilts since my children have got all they can use and my future house seems so far away sometimes and in any case I shall have enough quilts for it. But a really special wall hanging for my future house would be a nice project. I must think of something that would be really symbolic and need a lot of hour of work.

@CeliaVL Glad you liked them. You should definitely try the wall hanging thing. You could go anywhere you wanted with the design. I happen to really like doing applique but I've see then with a unique pieced center or even an embroidered one. Opens a whole new realm of possibilities because you can give them to people who already got quilts but not a wall hanging. 😉
Another thing you could try, I made a bed runner for another friend. They are fun, just a "foot warmer" to put across the bed and can be as fancy as you like. She likes cats so I made here the one below. I want to make one for my bed but not sure what I want to do with it yet. Actually need something less busy as my quilts are already pretty busy.

@DotLewis Great idea. I will think about how I want my future house to look and make some things for it. I made a bed runner that I really liked for my ex-daughter-in-law. She took it with her when they split up and also a pile of my quilts.I don't really mind since it means I can make new ones for my son and in any case they will go to the grandchildren eventually.
