10 April 2019 - Diet Diary - WOW! Nothing like much of the afternoon spent scraping old tiles off a floor, cutting plywood underlayment and maneuvering said plywood into the space on the floor to make one appreciate digging weeds. I did take a break and went out to dig some weeds and move a few iris that were coming up in the pathway in the yard. Then it was back to scraping floor. I will have to do more scraping than I had thought. Watched a couple videos and read online instructions on installing this plywood then was more confused.

Fortunately, my first granddaughter's adoptive father teaches construction at a vocational college. I called him for advice on how to proceed. It was good to have advice, although it didn't simplify my job. Turns out I am going to have to scrape the rest of the tile/lino off as the plywood is not as forgiving as I had hoped. The unevenness caused by parts of it remaining could translate through the plywood, then into the tile. The good news, I don't have to scrape the tar paper (WHY?) that was put under the tiles as it is thin enough it shouldn't show.

In addition, I will not be able to do the first sheet of plywood, put tiles on it then do the next sheet after moving the stove into place. After putting down ALL the underlayment, I will need to look for uneven spots and sand, including along the seams, before putting tiles down. I now have a dishwasher in the living room, the stove by the doorway out of the dining room and the fridge will need to move over to the dining room window area while I complete the underlayment. Looks like sandwiches and microwave food for a couple days. The microwave is still in it's normal spot. Of course I have to move the stove to open the door on it.

In the midst of all that, took in around 1110 calories, including a cute little "Smart Ones" frozen meal of beef pot roast and vegis. Only 180 calories, which tells you that "little" is the operative term in that last sentence. It wasn't at all bad however and easy to fix. I do see a significant problem in the morning. I had to pull the plywood back up (just laid in place) because I didn't allow expansion space. It is still on edge in the kitchen, effectively blocking my access to the coffee pot! 😟 I have been waiting until noon to start eating so it looks like instead of cruising internet and checking email before noon, I will be putting boards down so I can get my coffee.

I expect some sore hands, note in the pictures, every one of those Xs is where a nail is supposed to go.

You are definitely Wonder Woman. I hope your project turns out perfectly and you don't hurt yourself.

That looks like seriously hard work. I hope you are giving yourself plenty of breaks and taking care of your back as well as your hands. I would have thought you were using up quite a few extra calories at the moment, heaving those sheets around. What sort of tiles are you putting on top?

The hardest part was cutting the boards to fit properly. Missed a bit on the second one so will need to put in a little filler piece. When I FINALLY started nailing, it went alone pretty well, I sat on the floor and slid around to reach different areas. Took me most of a day to finally start nailing. Stopped to watch some videos on how it needed to be done, not very informative, finally started. I tend to "overthink" things sometimes. (A LOT) I certainly hope all this effort burns some calories. I need payback for the thumb I smashed. OUCH!!!

I'm putting vinyl tiles down, 2 colors because I originally bought them for the bathroom then decided I wanted something else in there. There were not enough of these to do the kitchen and I could no longer get them anywhere in the same color. I could get the same brand and pattern but a darker color so decided to go with a 2 color plan, especially because the darker color is a very good match for the ceramic tiles I used on the kitchen counter-top. The picture is of the tiles laid down to check arrangement. Haven't actually put any down yet. The second picture is the counter backsplash, the counter-top tiles are same color but 18"x18" with a row of these smaller ones at the back.

@DotLewis Looks good. I like light-coloured floors. They make the whole room look brighter. It is going to look really good. I hope you will be pleased with it.
