4 May 2019 - Diet Diary - Dang! The nice weather keeps dragging me outside to play in the dirt. Hard on hands but it is really quite relaxing. Turned dirt in the garden today, added peat moss and made several mounds to plant my squash seedlings on. It rained pretty hard tonight so won't be doing planting tomorrow after all but in a couple days I will put out some garden plants. Tomorrow maybe I will get the aviary cleaned and ready to move the birds out. They will be very happy about that. They really enjoy summers outside and they look so much nicer by the end of summer.

Not bad day on eating, slightly over 1200, but a little more than I planned on. Went over and did some yard work for the neighbor in the afternoon and before I left she asked if I go get some food for us for supper. Ended up getting food at Dairy Queen. No ice cream, went for grilled chicken sandwich and fish sandwich, offered her choice and she suggested cutting them and sharing both so we had that. Hadn't had a fish sandwich for YEARS, not bad. Still have cauliflower to fix. If that doesn't happen tomorrow, I will have to chop it, blanch and put in the freezer for later.

Time to sign off and head for bed. Less than an hour before mandatory bedtime. It's been a lot easier to get up at the time I want to in the morning when I have had enough sleep.

I like the idea of a mandatory bedtime. I am not doing well on bedtimes lately while still having to get up for various appointments, and I recognise that feeling tired doesn't help the spirits. Working outside is good though. Summer is pushing on fast here so we need to get the active work done early. What sort of fish sandwich was it? We can only get tuna mayonnaise here.

@DotLewis It is hard if you are a night person. The world is mostly geared towards morning people like me. My schedule is complicated by insomnia though. Even if I don't get to sleep until four I still want to get up at eight.

I had to do something about my late bedtimes. I have always been a night person but I had to accept that it was getting out of control. I was staying up to 3AM nightly, it was getting to 4 am regularly and occasionally later than that. Bedtime now is 2am, reading a book is allowed if I'm IN bed before 2, no more cruising the internet on my Kindle for an hour or so after getting in bed. If this goes well, my plan will be to bump it up to 1am when we go off daylight savings time.

As for the sandwich, it is listed as an Alaskan pollock fillet bit I'm not a fish connoisseur so to me, just fish. It was one of those deep fried pieces with breading on it, like "fish sticks" but better fish than that. Tuna is generally the only fish I eat. I aspire to do better, fish is said to be healthy food but I just am not a big fish eater.

It is overcast and drizzly today so no yard work. Want to go out and look at the squash I planted but otherwise doing inside work. Hope you are having a nice day. 🙂

@CeliaVL Once I get to sleep, I don't have problems sleeping a recommended amount but if I go to bed too early, like before midnight, I can't fall asleep. I end up tossing and turning until after midnight. I do prefer to get my sleep in and be up by 10am but that is impossible if I stay up until 4am.

For decades, I operated on short sleep rations because of the not falling asleep but still having to be up for work. Retirement has done wonders for my getting adequate sleep. I function well on short sleep when I need to, so if I need to be up early for an appointment, I'm good, just don't want to do it multiple times a week
