25 August 2019 - Diet Diary - Took another day off yesterday. That has proven to not be a good idea and today, to make up for it I kept intake at 928. Weight was up 4 lbs from Wednesday. It comes back SO much easier than it goes away. Will be taking a few days of increased control. Means more planning and recording as I go. Letting the recording go, thinking I will do it soon, or when I get around to it, doesn't work. Trying to recall everything I ate when I finish eating supper proves challenging and likely to result in omissions. Then yesterday, I didn't even bother trying to recollect the day.

So, having this knowledge will hopefully prompt me to maintain the "as I go" recording of my eating. When I first dieted counting calories, I was shocked at the things I ate or thought about eating (and probably would have if I wasn't counting) that I would normally not even think about. Mindless eating! A killer of good intentions. The last couple days reminded me of how easy it is to pop something into my mouth and never give it another thought. Those little bites add up quick. On a positive note, I made a bunch of dried tomato slices from the Roma tomatoes from the garden. They have proven quite tasty and only about 2 calories per slice.

I too "took a day off" from dieting...enjoyed a cheesy spinach dip, a croissant, and other rich delicacies.

....and I'm repeating it here to remind myself that I splurged...now it's time to pull back and tighten up.

So don't kick yourself for the "day off"....we all need it....

I'm not a calorie counter like you....just a portion and hunger control POV...trying to get back under 140 where I belong....

Thanks! I know the occasional day off is actually a good thing, I just need to remember that one day off does not mean it is OK to go ahead and take 3-4 off. That is where I get in trouble. Guess that will keep me coming here as unmonitored me is a fat person struggling to return. Sounds like we are kind of in the same boat regardless of how we "diet". Not staying on top of it will drag us back up in short order.

I've often wondered what it would be like to be one of those people who just never has to think about what they eat and still never get overweight. I did eventually see my dad go from one of those people to one who got fat when he got older and quit working. There was a certain, sick satisfaction for me seeing him with absolutely NO CLUE how to take weight off because he had never struggled with it when he was younger. I hoped he had regrets about his longtime attitude that fat people were that way because they didn't have the will to not be. (yes, I felt judged even though he wasn't directly cruel about it)

Good wishes to you on your battle. 🙂

@DotLewis

I'm totally convinced that we're battling our inner child pre-pubescent food habits...the ones our loving, "spoiling" parents gave us.

I have to say that with a caveat;

too many are "angry" with or hold resentment against their doting parents who - out of love - and a need for us to "settle down"....often overfed us...and gave us the eating habits that we have for life.

That caveat is....don't be angry with them. They did the best they could. If you were a doting and spoiling parent....have no regrets. Again....you did what was "right for the times".

It's these future parents who I'm concerned about.

I even see my son and his wife pushing the "eat up/finish up" habit on my unsuspecting grandson...and I as a grandparent have already overstepped by boundaries....so I foresee my little grandson growing up with overeating habits...and I can only say, decades from now...."I told you so"....

Posted by JonnaBononnaI had finally gotten back on track after gaining back most of the weight I lost a couple of years ago.

Posted by JurneeI have to say, as an overweight karate instructor, this is the one patch that I was ok with never getting.
