16 Sept. 2019 - Diet Diary - The struggle continues. Will have 2-3 "good" days in a row then there comes a bad one. That isn't a terrible thing when on maintenance, as long as there continue to be a few good days between each bad day, the consequences are not significant.(go away during the good days) However, this is not my real "plan" for long term. Occasional splurge days, yes but not every 2-4 days and definitely not out of control splurges except on rare occasions, like holidays or unavoidable "parties".

Today was one of the good days, intake was 1087, well under allowance. Yesterday was 100 over allowance while Saturday was 90 under and Friday was around 200 under. Overall, the intake is not bad although it should be low enough to result in a steady weight loss. According to "charts" I should be eating around 1827 calories a day to maintain my current weight. My intake goal is currently set at 1280 and even my "bad" days generally do not exceed 1550 calories in yet loss pretty much at a standstill. This is what comes of many years of off and on dieting, not infrequently using the current "fad" diet or the odd extreme yet unsustainable dramatic diet.

I still don't know how you do it...I can't measure out portions to exact calorie count. Kudos for your efforts.

Thanks for the kudos. The measuring isn't difficult to me, I tend toward OCD (not diagnosed, just a behavior) so sticking my serving of something on the food scale when I'm really monitoring well is not bothersome. Of course, there are times when my measurements are "guesses". Some things show on my tracking program as "serving" with no detail on exactly what a serving consists of.

If one has the actual package it will always show a size (like 1 cup) as well as a gram measurement for a serving. When I have to rely on the tracker alone, it depends on how OCD I'm feeling, whether I will google the product to get some clarification. Sometimes, I just "guess", like that looks like about a cup of that. This is when I'm still tracking but not really in the mood to do all the work. Then there come days when I just let it all slide then is when I'm likely to go over.

Sometimes this process can be shocking and/or disappointing. Some items show their serving and it is not clear with the measurement listed. This is when the gram measurement is important. An example is seasoned croutons, which I used to enjoy a handful as a salty snack more than on my salad. The package gave a very low calorie count and a serving size as "two tablespoons". When I started really watching things I realized it was pretty much impossible to measure croutons in a tablespoon so I got out the scale. On weighing out a serving, which was something like 9 gr. I found that this actually translated into around 2.5 croutons. I cannot imagine anyone truly considering 2.5 croutons to be a "serving". I consider it a bit of deceptive labeling, you look at the label quickly and see a reading of 25 calories for a "serving" and thing, WOW, I'll get some of these.

Enough of this, I'm prattling on as I am tired and annoyed. There is a cricket in my house. I cannot find him but can clearly hear him when I get away from his hiding place and he starts chirping again. I put down a sticky trap so hopefully he will find it soon and the cat will not find it. I better go to bed, won't be able to hear him from there. (I hope) G'nite!

Posted by DotLewis7 March 2020 - Diet Diary - Been quiet around here lately. I've not been on vacation, just keeping a low profile and trying to stay on top of things. Are those things incompatible?
