12 Feb, 2020 - Diet Diary - After a couple strict days, weight is down a couple pounds. Now to just stay on track to bring it down to goal. Salt counting remains more of a challenge than calorie counting. Worth it I guess, it seems to keep the BP from spiking, at least outside of normal range.
I'm going to have to do more "scratch" cooking than I have been doing recently. Like boiling the meat, without salt, for soup and stock, not using as much canned stock in soups. More fresh or frozen vegis instead of canned which are much higher in sodium. Less sauces, like salad dressing, ketchup, soy sauce, all packed with salt. Not all are easy changes to make, I eat a fair number of salads and have been using low/no fat versions which keep calories low but dressing is very high salt. Oil and vinegar dressing dodges the salt but the oil pushes the calories pretty high. WIll have to do some experimenting with flavorings to see what I come up with.
Checking in with doctor tomorrow. Worst part about it will probably be that it is going to be COLD tomorrow and I will have to get out in it anyway. Next day it will be back in the mid 40s. Sick weather!!

I really like ranch dressing, fat free variety but salt is high so am trying to use it only on a day when I haven't had any other high salt foods. Many years ago, when I was dieting, I would put dill pickle juice on my salads. Liked it a fair bit but HIGH salt content.

I use balsamic vinegar, lemon juice an apple sauce for salad dressing. In addition to adding a little sweet, apple sauce helps the mixture stick to the salad.
Use the barest minimum vinegar in lemon juice it's powerful and if you make the mixture too liquid it won't stick to the salad.

You don't need to buy salad dressing.. Just drizzle extra virgin olive oil and your choice of vinegar.. And black pepper.. No salt needed and you control the fat content..
