Something to share: I stayed up late last night because I wanted to finish my book. Sitting in my living room, I got up twice and went to the kitchen and got a snack, thereby ruining what had up until then been a good diet day. If I had gone to bed and finished my book in bed, I wouldn't have eaten anything. I will try and do better today, but it is so frustrating that I do these stupid things!
You have to PLAN AHEAD for snacking wisely! Humans were born to snack... resistance is futile! Have filling low-calorie snacks available at all times. Here's one of my favorites... cherry tomatoes. 5-calories per oz, almost no fat, no chemicals, all natural. Take them with you wherever you go. No way can you blow your diet by eating tomatoes. Another idea... I slice zucchini or yellow squash, sprinkle them with salt-free spices (like Mrs Dash) and roast (bake) them at 450 until browned on a baking pan with no-stick spray. Again, 5-calories per oz. If possible, ban all high-calorie foods from the house. If you don't have them, you can't eat them. I've lost almost 1/3 my body weight in 3-years and am close to recommended BMI by being relentless about avoiding junk, processed and calorie-dense foods. Plan for smart snacking!
Low cal snacks is a good idea, though I don't like tomatoes or zucchini very much. It's hard to ban all high-calorie foods since I don't live on my own, but I get rid of non-essentials! At least I am not going backwards at the moment.
If you don't blow it sometimes, you aren't human. It's just like quitting smoking, people go for weeks and then break down and have ONE CIGARETTE. They key is to not have the mindset of Game Over if you slip up. Just file it away and continue on. It is all psychological.
Don't get too frustrated about it. We all struggle with those sneak attacks by the snack urge. I've been trying to regain control over it since Christmas. I've managed to maintain but not to resume progress. You identified a trigger now so you know the next time take the book and go to bed. Defeating triggers will help keep you on track. One that I use, I figured out that if I have ice cream in the house I will eat a lot less of it if I keep it in the deep freeze in basement rather than top of fridge. Having to go downstairs to get it takes more thought than just walking into the kitchen so more chance of talking myself out of it.
Better luck tomorrow. (Today)

Posted by DotLewis7 March 2020 - Diet Diary - Been quiet around here lately. I've not been on vacation, just keeping a low profile and trying to stay on top of things. Are those things incompatible?
