"Dick Cavett's Vietnam" is running on Amazon Prime for free. It shows what the public discourse was in the 1960s and 70s. To me, it shows how the two-party system once again failed us miserably by preventing any semblance of intelligent discussion. Kennedy was goaded into committing troops by Republicans who were calling him soft on communism.
Short of going to war with the Soviet Union, the Pentagon Generals already knew the best that could be achieved was a stalemate.
