MrHIT's Getting Shredded Journal:

Hey all, brought up the idea of doing a fat loss thread. Decided to pull the trigger and welcome any questions/commentary.

Status: 230.4lbs this morning, 5'11", 33 years old. 32"x34" jeans, XL shirts.

Goals: lose 20-25lbs at 2-3lbs/wk. Maintain or gain strength.

Diet: 16:8 intermittent fasting. Keto during feeding window

Preface: I'd start by saying ANY diet or workout program can lead to outstanding results. This can be witnessed by the number of coaches or gurus with great abs preaching virtually any theory. The diet/exercise strategies we use are NOT NEARLY as important as our consistent execution of them at a level.

That being said, I use IF because it fits my schedule. I use keto primarily because it blunts my ap more than other approaches. With exercise, I'm a believer in a Heavy Duty Mike Mentzer approach to lifting. I lift 1-3 days a week, 1 set per muscle group, lots of rest. I've used this to lose 89lbs years ago while gaining strength and muscle.

I'll try to keep these posts so they're still readable. For a general idea of conditioning, here's a brief YouTube video I did yesterday on curls:

Day 1 Recap

+Stuck to diet 100% (will elaborate on it in future posts). 100% meaning not one bite or nibble of anything other than my written diet plan.

+Had a recovery day from the gym, but did some light fasted cardio

Day 2 Beginning

3:15 am as I'm writing this. 225.8lbs this morning. Low carb diets rapidly deplete muscle and liver glycogen in the initial days or week. Each molecule of glucose is coupled with 3 molecules of water to make glycogen, so low carb diets typically have large weight loss numbers the first week. I know it's not fat, but it can mentally make you feel good.

Had a great HIT shoulder workout this morning. Got up at 1:30. Going to sneak in a brief nap before a call with a phone client.

Will update tomorrow am with today's recap.

Mentzer, Yates, Labrada (he did a little more volume) and Ellington Darden are all workout/bodybuilding heroes of mine. You say you're trying to lose fat but didn't post a current bodyfat percentage. How about current measurements or a current 'before' picture? Best wishes and please keep us posted. I know I'll be following along.

I could take some measurements, sure. As far as a before shot, maybe in a stringer lol. I don't know my current BF%, 12-16% ish?

Yeah, Mentzer, Yates, Reinhardt can't get enough credit. Labrada, I believe, once said Heavy Duty was the one training program he didn't think would get results. I could be wrong though..

I'll throw up some photos and video as I continue the log. Thanks for the comment 🙂

@MrHIT I assume, like most of us, you're doing this to approve your appearance so weiging yourself is pretty meaningless. I always tell people I'm working with to not weigh themselves at all because it's not giving you the information you want. How fat are you? Are you holding water? How much muscle are you carrying? It can be hard to get through to people but all stepping on a scale does is tell you the effect gravity has on your body.
Hope your fat loss goes well!

@kmdskit3 I do fitness coaching, so my primary goal with getting in better shape is to attract more customers.

Yes, the scale is only one measure of progress. The mirror and how clothes fit are much better indicators of progress, but most people relate to weight, so I posted a weight. I wouldn't say weighing yourself is meaningless. Although a variety of factors can influence weight, over time it is an objective measure of change.

But to be totally honest, unless prepping for a show or doing something like this I never weigh myself.

As far as how fat am I or how much muscle do I have... I don't track bodyfat percentage. Having done a few natural bodybuilding shows they don't care about bf% either... It's all visual. I want to look good, so whether I'm 180lbs or 200lbs is irrelevant.
